Factor structure of the smokers’ Addictive Beliefs Questionnaire (SABQ)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: addictive beliefs constitute a risk for substance use; help maintain consumption and provide the background for relapse. At the present there are questionnaires that measure substance use beliefs globally but none focused on assess addictive beliefs in smokers, it does support the clinical management of people looking to quit.
Objective: assess the factorial structure of a questionnaire that measure addictive beliefs in smokers.
Method: using a purposive sampling a sample of 300 young smokers aged 18 was obtained. All participants answered a questionnaire composed of 60 self-report items exploring beliefs related to the consumption of tobacco. A confirmatory factor analysis (AFC) was performed to determine the model with a proper fit.
Results: after evaluating two models with CFA, a three factor model with a cross-loading was selected, whose goodness of fit measures were X2 S-B (22) = 38.37, p = .01, X2 S-B / gl = 1.74. CFIS = .978 RMSEAS = .050 (90% IC .021–.076 ), indicating a proper fit with the data.
Discussion and conclusions: the factorial structure of the CCAF is associated with addictive beliefs described by Beck. The CCAF is a brief clinical utility tool to assist in the treatment of people looking to quit smoking.
