Increase in Methamphetamine Use: a Challenge for Treatment Services

Abstract

Los estimulantes de tipo anfetamínico (ETA) son de las drogas más consumidas en todo el mundo. Hasta el 2020, se estima que había más de 30 millones de consumidores de metanfetaminas en el mundo (UNODC, 2023). En México se ha registrado un incremento significativo del consumo de metanfetaminas desde el año 2010 (García-Aurrecoechea et al., 2018). Sin embargo, en los últimos años, reportes epidemiológicos identificaron un incremento que ha sido más notorio en distintas zonas de la república mexicana, posicionándose como la principal droga ilegal, desplazando a la marihuana (CONASAMA, 2024), convirtiendo a las metanfetaminas como la sustancia de mayor impacto por la cual las personas consumidoras solicitan tratamiento (SSA, 2019).
