Are we doing what is necessary to prevent and reduce alcohol consumption?
Main Article Content
Abstract
Studies in Mexico have indicated that alcohol is the pri-mary substance that causes most problems in Mexico and many parts of the world. Prevalence in Mexico for binge drinking in the adolescent population aged 12 to 17 years, from 2011 to 2016, went from 12.1% to 15.2%, with the main increase in women (8.6% to 14.9%). In this context, it seems essential to develop cam-paigns, evidence based, focused on this problem aimed at fathers and mothers, to make them aware of the possi-ble consequences that their consumption entails for their family, and to show them different options or healthy alter-natives for family and social coexistence that are possible without consuming alcohol. It is not about stigmatizing consumption, but about giving a response that improves relationships within their family and social environment, re-ducing the social acceptance of alcohol consumption in the families.
